A deliciously bubbly and crispy potato gratin featuring rich Parmesan and Gruyere cheeses.

Ingredients

  • 2 pounds potatoes, thinly sliced
  • 1 cup heavy cream
  • 1 cup milk
  • 1 cup grated Parmesan cheese
  • 1 cup grated Gruyere cheese
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1/4 teaspoon nutmeg
  • 2 tablespoons butter, for greasing

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C).
  2. Grease a baking dish with butter.
  3. Layer half of the sliced potatoes on the bottom of the dish.
  4. In a bowl, mix the cream, milk, garlic, salt, pepper, and nutmeg.
  5. Pour half of the cream mixture over the potatoes.
  6. Sprinkle half of the Parmesan and Gruyere cheese on top.
  7. Repeat with the remaining potatoes, cream mixture, and cheese.
  8. Cover the dish with aluminum foil and bake for 45 minutes.
  9. Remove the foil and bake for an additional 15 minutes, or until golden brown and bubbly.

Notes

  • For extra flavor, add some fresh herbs like thyme or rosemary between the layers.
  • Let it cool for 10 minutes before serving to allow it to set.
