- 2 pounds potatoes, thinly sliced
- 1 cup heavy cream
- 1 cup milk
- 1 cup grated Parmesan cheese
- 1 cup grated Gruyere cheese
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
- 1/4 teaspoon nutmeg
- 2 tablespoons butter, for greasing
- Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C).
- Grease a baking dish with butter.
- Layer half of the sliced potatoes on the bottom of the dish.
- In a bowl, mix the cream, milk, garlic, salt, pepper, and nutmeg.
- Pour half of the cream mixture over the potatoes.
- Sprinkle half of the Parmesan and Gruyere cheese on top.
- Repeat with the remaining potatoes, cream mixture, and cheese.
- Cover the dish with aluminum foil and bake for 45 minutes.
- Remove the foil and bake for an additional 15 minutes, or until golden brown and bubbly.
Notes
- For extra flavor, add some fresh herbs like thyme or rosemary between the layers.
- Let it cool for 10 minutes before serving to allow it to set.
