  • 1 package phyllo dough
  • 2 cups chopped nuts (walnuts or pistachios)
  • 1 cup unsalted butter, melted
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1 cup sugar
  • 1 cup water
  • 1/2 cup honey
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. In a bowl, combine the chopped nuts and ground cinnamon.
  3. Layer phyllo dough in a buttered baking dish, brushing each layer with melted butter.
  4. Spread a layer of the nut mixture over the phyllo.
  5. Repeat the layers, finishing with several layers of phyllo dough.
  6. Cut the baklava into diamond-shaped pieces.
  7. Bake for about 50 minutes until golden brown.
  8. In a saucepan, combine sugar, water, honey, and vanilla; bring to a boil.
  9. Pour the syrup over the baklava as soon as it comes out of the oven.
  10. Let it cool before serving.

Notes

  • For extra flavor, consider adding cardamom to the nut mixture.
