Instructions

  1. In a saucepan, combine sugar, corn syrup, water, and salt. Stir until dissolved.
  2. Bring the mixture to a boil without stirring. Use a candy thermometer to heat to 250°F (hard ball stage).
  3. Remove from heat and stir in vinegar and flavor extract.
  4. If using, add food coloring and mix until even.
  5. Pour the mixture onto a greased surface and let it cool slightly.
  6. When cool enough to handle, start pulling the taffy until it becomes light and fluffy.
  7. Roll into logs and cut into pieces. Wrap in wax paper.
