- 2 pounds beef chuck, cut into cubes
- 4 cups beef broth
- 2 cups carrots, sliced
- 2 cups potatoes, diced
- 1 cup onions, chopped
- 1 cup celery, chopped
- 4 cloves garlic, minced
- 2 tablespoons tomato paste
- 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
- 1 teaspoon dried thyme
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
- 2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 tablespoon baking powder
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1 tablespoon fresh parsley, chopped
- 3/4 cup milk
- 1/4 cup butter, melted
- In a large pot, brown the beef cubes over medium heat.
- Add the onions, garlic, carrots, and celery, cooking until the vegetables are softened.
- Stir in the flour, tomato paste, Worcestershire sauce, thyme, salt, and pepper.
- Slowly add the beef broth, stirring until the mixture thickens.
- Add the potatoes, bring to a boil, then reduce the heat and let it simmer.
- While the stew is cooking, prepare the dumplings by mixing flour, baking powder, and salt in a bowl, then stir in milk and melted butter.
- Drop spoonfuls of the dumpling mixture onto the surface of the stew.
- Cover the pot and let the dumplings steam on top of the stew for 15-20 minutes until cooked through.
